Local Gender ID Laws:

South Korea does not have a law on 'gender identity' yet. National Human Rights Commission Act defines 19 categories of basis of discrimination this law prohibits, and they include sex and sexual orientation but not 'gender identity.' However, major human rights NGOs and women's organizations, along with queer activists, have been pushing for the passage of anti-discrimination law which has a clause for protection of 'gender identity' against discrimination over a decade. Movements for sexual minorities have grown considerably over the last decade and its impacts are manifested in the replacement of the word 'lesbians' with 'queer women' and expansion of sexual liberalism that facilitates the 'sex work' ideology.
