WDI supports those speaking about women's sex-based rights, in Auckland, New Zealand.

Following the rampant display of male violence against women in Auckland, New Zealand, Women’s Declaration International would like to express our solidarity with those who were attacked while speaking about the well-being and safety of women and children and the importance of women-only spaces.

Article four of the Declaration on Women's Sex-Based Rights affirms that women have the right to hold opinions without interference. This should include the right to hold and express opinions about ‘gender identity’ without being subject to harassment, prosecution or punishment.

These attacks are a blatant act of woman-hating and of utter contempt for the right to freedom of expression. We are also concerned by the response of the police, who could have done much more to protect women. We call on the New Zealand authorities to condemn these horrifying attacks and to ensure that women are able voice their concerns without having to risk their lives.
