On June 10th, WHRC Brasil sent to local press a release about Maya Forstater´s victory in UK - which is a victory, of course, of all women and girls. What happened minutes after was appalling: a left magazine called "Lavra Palavra" (something like "Cultivate Words") answered: "Teu Cú”. It literally means "Your ass" and it´s used on very informal occasions to express something like "no way, fuck off" (an English-speaking person would probably say "Kiss my ass"). "Lavra Palavra" sells books about Marxism, women´s movement and politics in general, with a left-wing approach. The Brazilian left, just like other countries´ left, is unashamed to show its misogyny. We ask our members, contacts and supporters to share our posts on Twitter and Instagram with the tag #LavraPalavrão (something like 'Cultivate Slang words´)

Sex-based rights around the world

US government bans single sex bathrooms, locker rooms, sports teams

Last week the US goverment confirmed that it would extend discrimination on the basis of sex to include 'gender identity' and sexual orientation. Although this decision was expected it is still devastating news. Our thanks to the fantastic team at WHRC USA who fought so hard against it.

Campaigns

Movimiente Feminista campaigns against Spain's 'Trans laws'

The Spanish government is proposing legislation that replaces the legal category of 'sex' with 'gender identity'. This is to be expanded by the so-called Trans Law, LGTBI Law and Zerolo Law, on the verge of being introduced in parliament, which would criminalise people who, in the exercise of their fundamental right to freedom of expression, defend the use of the words woman, mother or vulva, or “make a mistake” in their use of pronouns, imposing fines of up to 150,000 euros. Please sign the manifesto and lend your support if you can.
