The Bahamas Chapter of Women's Declaration International stands with the Bahamas Christian Council in its decision to allow Pride Month activities to carry on in country without protest.
The Bahamas Christian Council Bishop Dr. Delton Fernander, expressed that the LGBTQIA community is free to host their activities and the council will not object or interrupt.
Country Contact for the Bahamas Chapter Rochelle R. Dean expressed that this allows the Bahamas to become more engaged in the real issues impacting women in current and modern times while also allowing the conflated dynamics that have had negative repercussions on women to be addressed.
This decision will also be reflected in better policy decisions that impact women's rights as well as data needs for filling necessary gaps for further progress.
"Gender identity and sexual orientation are choices, sex is the natural order of things" stated Dean.
Women's Declaration International Bahamas advocates for women sex-based rights and against gender ideology and any policies and laws that become discriminatory toward women.
The Pride Week activities directly impacts women (lesbians) who have a right to exercise their rights of freedom of expression and peaceful assembling:
According to Article 4: Reaffirming women's rights to freedom of opinion and freedom of expression.
And;
Article 5: Reaffirming women's rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.
We continue to stand with all women of the Bahamas no matter their sexual orientation or creed and we support any and all laws that allow for the care and well-being of all women and girls in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
